Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman scored for Atalanta in their 2-1 victory over Sporting CP in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash on Thursday Night.
Host, Atalanta welcomed Sporting CP to the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo for the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash. The first leg ended 1-1 in Portugal on Wednesday, March 8th, 2024. Atalanta started well, but they conceded the first goal from Pedro Goncalves in the 33rd minute, giving Sporting CP the lead. The visitors took their lead into the Half-Time Break. In the second half, The Italian club scored the equalizer in the 46th minute through Nigerian Forward, Ademola Lookman. Lookman scored through a cross from Ederson.

In the 59th minute, Gianluca Scamacca scored the second goal for Atalanta to put them in the pole position as they held on to the lead till the Full-Time whistle. Ademola Lookman had a stellar performance for the 85 minutes he was on the pitch as he had two shots, 55 touches, and two successful dribbles before he was replaced by El Bilal Toure.

Lookman while speaking to UEFA in the Post-Match Conference emphasized on the significance of his goal, “Did you hear the roar after my goal? The fans were amazing tonight and scoring just in front of the supporters was just great.” “I’m very happy because it was vital to equalize early in the second half. That goal helped us to play better.”

Atalanta qualified for the Round of 16 with a 3-2 aggregate in the Europa League. The other teams that qualified for the knockout rounds are Liverpool, Roma, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham, Marseille, AC Milan, and Benfica.
