The 2023 Nations Cup’s Highest Goal Scorer, Emilio Nsue has retired from International duty after a stellar performance in Coted’Ivoire.
The Equatorial Guinea player who scored five goals to emerge as the Top Scorer in the 2023 Nations Cup in Coted’Ivoire announced his retirement with immediate effect after Equatorial Guinea’s football authority, FEGUIFUT suspended him for misconduct. The President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodora Nguema on Tuesday night stated that “After discussions, captain Emilio Nsue López has declared his retirement from the national team. I acknowledge his contributions over the 12 years he has represented the Nzalang Nacional and wish him success in his future endeavours.”
The 34-year-old who plays for Spanish club, Club de Fútbol Intercity was one of the best players of the just concluded 2023 Nations Cup where he scored five goals including a brace against the Host Nation, Cote d’Ivoire and a hattrick versus Guinea Bissau. He was the 17th player to score a hat-trick since the first edition of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON that was played in 1957.
