All schools in Adamawa State, Nigeria, have been closed due to a measles outbreak that tragically claimed the lives of 42 children.
The closure was announced by the State Government on Monday following the confirmation of the outbreak.
The outbreak primarily affected the Mubi North and Gombi local government areas, with 42 deaths reported out of 131 affected individuals in Mubi and 177 affected in Gombi.
Confirming the situation, State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Felix Tangwami, stated that all 21 local government areas, except Lamurde, were on high alert.
Dr. Umar Garba Pella, the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, also verified the closure of primary and secondary schools, both public and private, for one week to assess and monitor the outbreak’s impact.
