Dr. Paul Akintelure, an aspirant for the 2024 governorship election in Ondo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has passed away.
The spokesperson for the APC in Ondo State, Oladapo Akintelure, confirmed the incident on Tuesday. Prior to his death, Dr. Akintelure, who transitioned from a medical profession to politics, had expressed concerns about threats to his life, both direct and indirect.
“Initially, I hope these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life,” the statement read.
“The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward.
“Let us embrace peace, progress, and unity. Our collective strength lies in our to stand together as one, regardless of our differences.”
In 2012, Akintelure served as the deputy gubernatorial candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Prior to this, he had contested the Ondo South senatorial election under the ACN.
Akintelure, originally from Igbotako in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, was a private medical practitioner based in Lagos.
