The Nigeria’s Football Governing Body, NFF has announced the death of former Super Falcons goalkeeper ,Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni.
The Ekiti-born goalkeeper who was the former goalkeeper for the Super Falcons has been battling cancer for nine years.
Bidemi’s death was announced via a post on X by the Nigeria Football Federation,”We are sad to hear of the passing of former Super Falcons goal keeper, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni after an eight-year battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. May her gentle soul rest in peace”.
In 2019, The deceased revealed her battle with a rare breast cancer diagnosed in 2017 while playing for Rivers Angels. It was reported that after undergoing a six hour surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, Aluko shares her struggles with worsening pains.
The 30 year old disclosed on a poignant Facebook post her need for financial assistance to cover ten Herceptin treatments with each costing 470,00. She also revealed to BBC Africa how the 2020 pandemic derailed her treatment and how the Nigeria Football Federation supported her treatment with 13,000 dollars.
However, she sought even more financial assistance as her husband lost his job due to the pandemic and her treatment costs compounded.
