Bafana Bafana of South Africa defeated the Leopards of DR Congo 6-5 on Penalties to win the third Place match on Saturday night.
South-Africa Captain and Goalkeeper , Ronwen Williams was the hero as he saved two penalties to ensure that Bafana Bafana wins the Bronze Medal Match at the ongoing AFCON 2023.
The match ended in a goalless draw after regulation time in Abidjan. DR Congo was the better side of the two teams but could not convert their chances . South Africa made three changes to the side that lost to Nigeria on Penalties as Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thapelo Morena and Mihlali Mayambela came in for suspended Grant Kekana and injured duo Mothobi Mvala and Percy Tau.
After losing their semi-final on Penalties to Nigeria, South Africa became the first team to play three straight Afcon shootouts after facing Cape Verde, Nigeria and DR Congo.
The final of the tournament will be played on Sunday as Host Nation, Ivory Coast face three time champions , Nigeria at the Olympic Stadium in Ebimpe. The two sides have earlier met in the Group Stage with Nigeria winning 1-0, thanks to a Troost Ekong Penalty.
