At least 22 pupils from the ECD A and B classes were allegedly abducted by a kombi driver yesterday afternoon at David Livingstone Primary School in Harare, the Zimbabwean capital.
The driver was in charge of driving students from the school to their homes in Kuwadzana. When the kombi ran out of fuel in Macheke, the worrying scenario took a turn.
It was gathered that a watchful motorist saw the stopped car and found the kids in danger.
The motorist acted quickly and called the police, who showed up at the site shortly after.
The driver was later caught, and the traumatised kids were brought to Marondera Hospital for a comprehensive check-up.
Following an investigation into the incident, it was discovered that some Kuwadzana parents had been paying the driver for a long time to drive their kids to and from school.
Concerns were raised by the fact that the kids were allegedly brought up from school at noon.
The police are aggressively interviewing the arrested driver, thus the reason for the kidnapping is still unknown. A thorough statement about the case from the police is still pending.
