Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu has endorsed Amaju Pinnick’s bid for re-election to the Council of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
Pinnick, who has served two terms as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was first elected to the FIFA Council in March 2021. He follows in the footsteps of the late Oyo Orok Oyo and Dr. Amos Adamu as the third Nigerian to hold this position.
“Mr. Pinnick is seeking re-election into the Council, and President Tinubu supports the bid for Nigeria to retain its seat in the Council,” presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale stated on Tuesday.
President Tinubu has emphasized his strong support for Nigeria’s bid to maintain its representation on the FIFA Council, which is the primary decision-making body of FIFA between its Congress sessions.
The FIFA Council consists of 37 members elected by the FIFA Congress for renewable four-year terms.
