At least seven people were killed in a fresh bandit attack on Saturday night in Mai Dabino village, located in the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to an eyewitness, the assailants abducted an unspecified number of people, mostly women and children, who were taken to a nearby forest. The witness reported that the bandits invaded the village around 10:00 pm, operating for about three hours while shooting sporadically to terrorise residents.
The witness also noted that those killed were set ablaze by the attackers. Armed with sophisticated weapons, the bandits burned down several houses and shops, including motor vehicles worth millions of Naira.
The Police Spokesman in the state, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident on Sunday in a text message sent in response to an inquiry.
“Yesterday, June 22, 2024, at about 2000 hrs, armed bandits in their numbers, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, attacked Mai Dabino village, Danmusa LGA, where they shot and killed about seven persons,” he stated.
ASP Sadiq added that an investigation is currently ongoing and further developments will be communicated in due course.
