Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has committed to ensuring that students at Lagos State University, LASU, will benefit from the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, managed by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
During the 27th Convocation of LASU, Sanwo-Olu emphasized his administration’s dedication to empowering students at state-owned tertiary institutions to reach their full potential.
“We aim to foster a generation of innovative thinkers, problem-solvers, and great leaders, who will drive sustainable development in Lagos State and beyond,” he stated.
The governor assured that the Lagos State Government would collaborate with NELFUND to ensure timely and equitable access to the national student loan program for LASU students.
Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of academic achievement, urging young people to pursue excellence with as much passion as they do artistic and athletic endeavors.
He also announced a ₦10 million award to the best graduating student of the 2022/2023 session, Olaniyi Olawale, who graduated from the Accounting Education Department with a CGPA of 4.98.
“Congratulations to you, Olaniyi. This is a moment of great pride, not just for you, but for all of us,” Sanwo-Olu said. “I believe that someone out there is working very hard to be the next Olaniyi Olawale. Keep your eyes on that goal and make us all, as well as yourself, very proud.”
LASU Vice-Chancellor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello also addressed the graduates, highlighting the ceremony as a significant moment of achievement for the 89 Doctors of Philosophy and 66 professional doctoral degree graduates
