Troops from the One Division of the Nigerian Army, operating in the Kaduna region, neutralised seven terrorists in separate incidents in Chikun and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.
In a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, it was reported that troops stationed at a blocking position in Udawa conducted a fighting patrol along the Udawa-Kurebe Road on Sunday.
During an encounter, they neutralised five terrorists and recovered several weapons, including an empty AK-47 magazine, a pump-action gun, six cartridges, and other dangerous items.
Additionally, in a separate operation at Kwaga village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, troops neutralised two terrorists and seized two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and two motorcycles.
In another operation at Sabo Birni in Igabi Local Government Area, troops intercepted suspected terrorists at Baka village on Sunday, inflicting significant casualties. Some of the terrorists escaped with gunshot wounds. The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles from the scene.
Major General MLD Saraso, General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH, praised the troops for their aggressive efforts and urged them to maintain pressure on terrorists, insurgents, violent extremists, and their supporters.
He also called on law-abiding citizens to report anyone with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention to the Nigerian Army or nearby security agencies.
Furthermore, he appealed to the residents of Kaduna and Niger States to provide timely and actionable intelligence to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for swift action.
