Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s National Team, The Flamingoes will face Liberia in the next round of qualifications for the 2024 U-17 Women’s World Cup scheduled to be held in the Dominican Republic later this year.
Following a series of two-legged playoff ties, Burundi, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Zambia, and Liberia have advanced to form the “Final Six” in the CAF qualifying competition. Burundi secured their place with an overwhelming 18-0 aggregate victory over Djibouti, while Kenya defeated Ethiopia 3-0 in the second leg after a goalless first match. These two nations will now face each other over two legs with the first match on June 7th.
Morocco also advanced dominantly, following up a 4-0 first-leg win over Algeria with the same scoreline in the return leg, setting up a clash with Zambia. This tie promises to be exciting, with the young Zambians aiming to replicate the success of their senior national team after beating Uganda 2-1 on aggregate.
Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso, winning 13-1 over the two legs. They will now face Liberia, who triumphed over Senegal on away goals after winning 2-0 to overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit. The three victorious nations from this final qualifying phase will secure their spots at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
The first legs of this final round will take place on June 7, with the return matches scheduled for June 14 across the continent. The winner of the two legs will qualify for the World Cup in Dominican Republic.
