President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and committed to reviewing the national minimum wage law every three years.
This announcement was made during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, stated that the President also pledged to explore ways to support the private sector and sub-national entities in implementing the new minimum wage.
This meeting marks the second time in a week that President Tinubu has engaged with the NLC and TUC leaders.
The Labour leaders expressed their gratitude to President Tinubu for his supportive measures. Additionally, President Tinubu assured that he would use his discretionary powers to address the demands of university unions for unpaid salaries spanning four months.
