The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has unveiled Finidi George as the new head coach of the Nigerian men’s national team, the Super Eagles.
At an event in Abuja attended by leaders of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Finidi George was unveiled at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Monday morning.
Enoh expressed his pride in having a Nigerian coach leading the team, stating, “Any country where I find an indigenous coach sitting on the bench, I always feel very proud. I am glad that we have Finidi George as the head coach of the men’s national team.”
The Former Super Eagles and Real Betis Forward was appointed permanently following the departure of Portuguese coach, Jose Peseiro in February. He served as an assistant to Peseiro during the last African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where Nigeria finished as runners-up.
George’s appointment was confirmed a few weeks ago, after he led the team on an interim basis for the international friendlies against Ghana and Mali. His first major task as the head coach will be the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in June.
