A South African version of hit Netflix reality show The Ultimatum has been released – sparking much commentary on social media.
The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On features six couples in which one partner is ready for marriage but the other is not.
The couples are split up and instructed to choose new partners from the rest of the group. After eight weeks apart, they must decide whether to marry their original partner or “move on”.
The show’s first season, set in the US and released in 2022, was Netflix’s second-most watched non-scripted series of the year.
A French version of the show came out in 2022 and on Friday a South African series followed.
The show has been trending among South Africans on social media platform X.
“The ultimatum South Africa is so messy. I love it,” one fan said.
Another wrote: “I can’t believe The Ultimatum has reached South Africa. This is going to be chaotic.”
“I’m sorry but #TheUltimatumSA is even better than the US one,” a separate post read.
