The Nigerian Government announced a hike in electricity tariffs for Band A customers, who receive 20 hours of electricity supply daily.
Musliu Oseni, Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), disclosed the increase during a press briefing in Abuja.
Under the new tariff, customers will now pay ₦225 per kilowatt-hour, a significant increase from the previous ₦66 rate.
Oseni noted that these Band A customers constitute 15 percent of the nation’s 12 million electricity consumers.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the commission has downgraded certain customers from Band A to B due to their failure to meet the required hours of electricity provision by the distribution companies.
