The Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved up 14th places to 28th in the latest FIFA men’s rankings released on Thursday.
The rankings released via the FIFA website show that the Super Eagles, who were ranked 42nd in the ranking released in December 2023, gained forty-seven points and moved up to 28th.
The Eagles’ rise in the rankings was largely due to their impressive performance in the recent Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Coted’Ivoire. The Super Eagles of Nigeria after playing out a 1-1 scoreline in the first match of the Nations Cup, won their subsequent matches before losing in the final to Ivory Coast. The team coached by Portuguese, Jose Peseiro kept four clean sheets in the tournament scoring eight goals and conceding four goals.
The biggest mover of the latest FIFA Ranking was Angola , who reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 Nations Cup before losing to Nigeria. The Palancas Negras moved 24 places to 93rd in the Ranking from 117th position. Current African Champions, Coted’Ivoire moved up 10 places to 39th. The Other impressive performers are Equatorial Guinea (79th, up 9), South Africa (58th, up 8), Cape Verde (65th, up 8), Namibia (107th, up 8) and Mali (47th, up 4).
