Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m relay team clinched gold at the African Senior Athletics Championship, triumphing over their longstanding rivals, Ghana, who took silver.
Anchored by record holder Tobi Amusan, the team secured victory with a time of 42.76 seconds. Amusan’s participation in the finals was uncertain due to falling ill the night before the race.
The sprint relay began with Justina Eyakpobeya running the opening leg, passing the baton to Tima Godbless. The gold medal seemed inevitable when Godbless handed the baton to Olayinka Olajide.
Finally, Tobi Amusan, the 100m hurdles world record holder with a time of 12.12 seconds, only needed to switch gears to outpace the competition, finishing in 42.76 seconds and adding another gold medal to Nigeria’s collection.
Nigeria has maintained a gold-winning streak in this event since 2018.
