Nigeria Premier League Club, Rivers United has been drawn against Algerian Club, USM Algers in the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
The Port-Harcourt-based Club will face the Defending Champions of the Confederation Cup, USM Algers after the draws were made in Cairo on Tuesday Afternoon. The last Nigerian Team to win an African Competition was Enyimba in 2005 when they defeated Ghana’s Hearts of Oak 2-0 after extra time to win the CAF Super Cup.
The team led by Evans Ogenyi has won all four home matches to make the quarter-finals but were less impressive on the road with only one victory, a draw and two losses. Rivers United will be looking to do better after reaching Back to Back quarter-finals.
In the other draws, Dreams of Ghana will meet Stade Malien of Mali. Modern Future will face Zamalek in an Egyptian derby while Abu Salim of Libya takes on Renaissance Berkane of Morocco in a North African Match. Teams such as Berkane, USM Algers, Malien and Zamalek have won the Confederation Cup twice with Algerian Side, USM Algers, the defending Champions.
