CAF African Men and Women Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala have been nominated for the Prestigious Nigeria Pitch Awards.
The nominees for different categories were announced with names such as Asisat Oshoala and Wilfred Ndidi named in different categories for the award. The different categories for the awards are Goalkeeper of the Year, Defender of the Year, Midfielder of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Team of the Year.
The Categories for the Goalkeeper of the Year include Home-based players such as Kayode Bankole of Remo Stars, Olorunleke Ojo of Enyimba FC and Amas Obasogie of Bendel Insurance. Fulham Defender, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina of Nottingham Forest and Fernabahce’s Bright Osayi-Samuel who were part of the team that participated in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
The Midfielder Category will see Alexander Iwobi compete with Royal Antwerp Midfielder, Al Hassan Yusuf and Leicester City player, Wilfred Ndidi. The King of the Pitch Award nominees are Emeka Obioma of Enyimba, CAF African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen and Bayer Leverkusen, Victor Osimhen. The Queen of the Pitch nominees are Former Barcelona Player, Asisat Oshoala, CAF Goalkeeper of the Year (Women), Chiamaka Nnadozie and Super Falcons Captain, Rashidat Ajibade.
The Coach of the Year includes Super Falcons Coach, Randy Waldrum, Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars and Finidi George of Enyimba Football Club. The Nigeria Football Federation will announce the date for the ceremony which might take place during the March International window. President of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, Mr.Shina Phillips stated that the objective of the organizers is to give Nigerian Football a credible award platform that can consistently motivate and inspire healthy competition among the players, coaches, administrators, sponsors and journalists.
