Namibia’s President Hage Geingob died at the age of 82 on Sunday morning in a hospital in Windhoek, the country’s capital, the presidential office said in a statement.
This was made known in a Presidential statement issued by the Presidency of Namibia and made available to AAN TV.
Geingob became president in 2015 and was serving his second term in office as Leader of the South African nation.
He served as the country’s first prime minister from 1990 to 2002 under former president Sam Nujoma’s administration.
Geingob has battled health issues in recent months.On January 8, 2024, he announced that he was diagnosed with cancer.
He subsequently went for a cancer treatment in the United States of America January 25. He returned from America on January 30 following two days of treatment.
Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 1990 to 2002, and served as prime minister again from 2012 to 2015.
Between 2008 and 2012 Geingob served as Minister of Trade and Industry. He served as president of the ruling SWAPO Party from November 2017
