Reigning Afro-basket Women Champions, Nigeria has released its roster for the 2024 FIBA Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament in Belgium.
Digress Head Coach, Rena Wakama announced the 15 women roster on Friday ahead of the qualifiers in Antwerp where they will face Belgium, Senegal and the United States of America from the 8th to the 11th of February 2024.
Notable players on the list are Amy Okonkwo, Promise Onyeka, Alimat Olatoyosi and Okoro Ifunanya. The duo of Nigerian-based players – Donanu Regina (MFM) and Akaraiwe Nkem Uwa (Customs) were also included in the roster.
Other players called up were Elizabeth Balogun, Sarah Ogoke, Adeyeye Adebola, Nicole Enabosi, Murjanatu Musa, Lauren Ebo, Ejiofor Blessing, Taiwo Oluwatomi Yemisi and Pallas Akpanah who were part of the 2023 Afro Basket Championship in Rwanda.
Nigeria will face Senegal who they defeated in 2023 to emerge Afro Basket champions in the first match before playing USA and Belgium respectively. DTigress will be hoping to triumph in the group in order to partake in the next Olympic Games scheduled to take place in Paris from July 26th to August 11th 2024.
